Crops On Top, Milwaukee WI - Summer 2023

I had the pleasure of capturing an incredible dining experience last Summer. After finishing my time with AmeriCorps at Habitat for Humanity, I was ready to get back to work. On my way home, I passed by Crops on Top and decided to introduce myself. I offered to photograph one of their summer events as a complimentary session.

Crops on Top is run by two brothers: Chef Joel, who leads in the kitchen, and Jamie, who manages operations. They’re dedicated to bringing a high-class, farm-to-table dining experience to Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood. Their mission extends beyond just dining—they’re literally growing “crops on top” of the pavement in the warehouse district area of Capitol Drive.

Photographing this event was a real treat. I set up my flash next to the serving table to ensure Joel and the beautifully prepared food were perfectly lit, regardless of the time of day.

To my surprise, these photos were later published by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Midwest Living Magazine, which gave me the confidence to pursue photography full-time.

Below are the photos from this unique event.
